Attention, "Hudson Valley" COVID-informed creatives & beyond!

Join Celebrate845 on Zoom for community meetings. No artistic experience required.

Meetings will be held on:

  • 1st Tuesdays of the month at 6:00PM EST (February 3)

  • 3rd Saturdays of the month at 11:00AM EST (February 21)

Intention (by facilitator Amanda W): What would you like people to know about covid? And how could we use more creative mediums to deliver that information locally? Inspired by ACT UP's Gran Fury and drawing on activism that seeks to provide health interventions when government agencies fail to message critical information comprehensively (or at all), let's put our talents to use and help our communities. What could we create to better inform those around us and encourage more covid competency?

Because despite what many people want to believe in their urgency to get "back to normal," we're still in a pandemic. Yet, we're watching the erasure of covid and long covid in real time with the current administration, and prior to that, a complete failure of the CDC to accurately share the risks and repercussions of repeat covid infections in any meaningful way. Let's fill that gap. We can produce materials that educate our communities about the dangers of covid and encourage them to adopt more covid-competent behaviors. And we can do so in a way that ideally feels creatively edifying. Join us to discuss projects and lay the groundwork for what will hopefully become an ongoing, multi-city effort.

We'll be meeting consistently to build consistency, momentum & community, but these are not mandatory. Come as much as you can, but there's no pressure to attend if you can't. Meetings will have loose intentions and largely involve brainstorming, design builds, & other project specifics. But let's also consider this group as a space to connect around covid-conscious values. That's all to say: If you ever need a reminder that you're not alone as the world continues to move on, please drop in & say hi.

Meeting accessibility info

If we can do more to make these gatherings more accessible, please let us know.

  • Fully virtual on Zoom with captions available through Zoom

  • If you need suggestions on where to access free WiFi, let us know

  • No expectation to have video on or to use audio. Engagement in the chat is fine.

  • We do ask that folks participate in the chat at least a bit for security reasons. Moderators have the right to remove folks. Hate, COVID denialism, and bad faith energy will not be tolerated.

  • These will be virtual gatherings with the intention of collectively co-building a working group. All ideas, ages & abilities welcomed. Youth are welcomed.

  • Zoom link will be shared day-of at Celebrate845.com/links (in Instagram bio too)

  • Non-Hudson Valley folks are welcomed to attend, connect & get inspired, but we'll be centering building our efforts in the HV. We are down to host breakout rooms by locale!

  • Sometimes, meetings include virtual co-working using design programs like Canva, but folks are welcomed to use whatever programs they prefer, make things by hand, or just be present. No pressure.

  • Zoom offers great automatic caption and translation services that transcribe across languages. We hold space for non-English speakers and invite attendees to utilize captions so we can all communicate.

Things we've made so far

"Masking Is Free Healthcare" posters

These posters point to our Free PPE Hubs across the "Hudson Valley" in New York and "strongly encourage" readers to mask up.

Feel free to view, download, print, and post the following flyers up at your leisure.

If you'd like some mailed to you to hang around your community, please contact us.

If you're in another region and would like a copy of our Canva templates to make your own version of these flyers with different resource links, reach out!

Note that some of these have tear-offs, meaning that you'd have to cut/separate them so folks passing by can tear off the information to take with them.

NY Mask Week Zine

The CCC helped out BIG TIME with the New York Mask Week zine! They elected to put out an open call to creatives across NY State seeking creative content that centers covid realism, covid safety, covid consciousness, or covid competency.

Despite what many people want to believe in their urgency to get "back to normal," we're still living in a pandemic. Yet, we're watching the erasure of covid (and long covid!) as government agencies fail to message the risks and repercussions of repeat covid infections.

By creating this zine (pronounced "zeen", as in "magazine"), we intend to center covid-safe voices, stories, art, education, and more. Our aim is twofold: We hope to increase visibility around covid consciousness so others in the community feel less alone as the world continues to move away from covid-safe practices, and we also hope to highlight key stories, information, and resources for others who would benefit from taking up covid-safe practices once again.
