How did we get here?
During the first/iconic #HVMaskWeek, we met & connected more deeply with so many truly amazing folks across the 845. Some of the most caring people around (yes we said it!) who shared so many dreams centered around material community care & keeping ALL of our neighbors safer via masks & other forms of PPE.
Two of those dreams have come to life!
- Public hubs: we worked with The Yard in Beacon to have a public hub, accessible any time!
- Library hubs: our pal Moran, a local library worker, connected with Lia & Jamie, & we're working to get FREE masks and test donated to put in HV libraries.
Reminder that we are regular ol' community members, doing this work entirely for free, because it feels important. No secrets, certifications, etc. Just your neighbors trying to do our part in keeping our communities safer. Feels so good!
Gratitude to the companies who have donated FREE PPE to us to distribute:
Want to get your own bulk donations of masks or tests of your own to distribute? Check out the "Free and low cost tools" section of our COVID & Accessibility Resource Guide for detailed instructions on how YOU can get donations and become your own hub!
We are always taking mask and unexpired test donations if you have them (but not surgical masks, cloth masks, or face shields).
How to get involved:
- Do you have space to host a publicly accessible Mask/Test Hub? If so, let's talk!
- Do you work at a library? If so, & if you'd like to steward Mask Kit distro at your library, let's talk!
- Do you utilize your local library as a community member? If so, it could be really helpful to kindly tell them that libraries as hubs for PPE would be awesome, accessible, educational, etc. You can tell them in person or send a friendly letter/email, & feel so free to name drop us as a resource or put us in touch directly. And if they're already supplying the goods, let them know that you appreciate it!
- Become a Community Volunteer! This could mean that you're someone who checks in on stock at a hub near you, or holds onto masks/tests for us so hat if people reach out and are geographically near you, we can connect y'all. Great way to meet the folks!
- Donate to our efforts if called or able! Funds will go towards printing signage for Mask Hubs, kit packing supplies, gas for supply deliveries, etc. All of our pay links are at celebrate845.com/links (scroll all the way down). At this time, we don't need funds to purchase masks and tests, as we receive them for free through donation programs (both of which are detailed in our COVID & Accessibility Resource Guide if YOU want to get donations and become your own hub!).
- Tell people to go get free masks at the hubs
Hoping that this update serves as a reminder that we hold so much power to do beautiful things in our communities, & that our creative minds combined are a force for good! And COVID-caring people: you're not alone! We're out here. Reach out to collab anytime. Another world is happening NOW.
